M2R holds virtual launch event

Clive Hickman, M2R Chair, assisted by renowned journalist Daisy McAndrew officially launched the Midlands Manufacturing Resilience Commission and its inaugural report and recommendations on Wednesday 2nd December at the MTC.

The launch event centred on Clive Hickman’s presentation of the Commission’s 12 recommendations for a more positive and robust future for the regions manufacturing community.

Before Clive’s presentation, the event was officially launched with a video from Nadhim Zahawi, the MP for Stratford Upon Avon and Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, who has recently been appointed as Health Minister with the responsibility for overseeing the nationwide rollout of the new Coronavirus vaccine.

Following the presentation of the Report’s findings from the M2R Chair, Clive Hickman was joined in a virtual panel discussion by Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Midlands Engine and Hannah Boardman, Director of Advanced Manufacturing at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; all of whom have played key roles in the launch of the Commission and it’s efforts over the summer to engage hundreds of business leaders, academics and politicians to contribute to the Report.

The Q&A which included a series of questions from the large virtual audience, enabled the panellists to highlight the collaborative efforts that had gone into making the Commission a reality as well as the ongoing cooperation that will be required from all sides as the Commission continues to work to create the action plans required to turn the recommendations into tangible outputs that aim to support the regions manufacturers in spearheading our economic recovery.
